Downingtown

This Downingtown project is not a renovation in the conventional sense. Working with R.A. Hoffman Architects, Cullen Construction undertook a layered transformation of a historic property that required equal measures of preservation instinct and modern engineering. The scope was ambitious: a guest house, an authentic period log addition, an expansive terrace with a timber frame trellis, the installation of geothermal HVAC, and a stone barn fitted with solar panels. Each element was designed to coexist with the property's historic character and to enhance it, like the well discovered during construction and celebrated as a feature of the potting shed. The result is a home that has grown without aging, expanded without straying, and modernized without forgetting where it came from.
